March 1: Zero Discrimination Day - End Inequalities

It is great to know that March begins with Zero Discrimination Day. The UN under the umbrella of United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDs (UNAIDS) marks this day every 1st March. This year, 2021, the theme is "End Inequalities." Saving Hand Development Initiative (SHADE-IN) hereby calls on policy makers to ensure that all forms of discrimination and inequalities are addressed in every policy or law passed. The budget should make provision to prioritize critical sectors such as education and health. The Violence Against Persons (VAPP) act, which is one of the non-discriminatory acts should be made to extend its jurisdiction across the 36 states of the federation. With the amendment of some of the grey areas pointed out by civil society organisations, the VAPP should be fully operational across Nigeria.
