The theme of the 2018 International Workers' Day is: “Uniting Workers for Social and Economic Advancement”.

We seize this opportunity to call on all Nigerian workers from the top of the hierarchy to the base to resolve in contributing meaningfully to their work better than before, so as to generate greater profit for their organisation, hence, advancing the socio-economic aspects of the nation.

We especially call on public servants to add diligence, innovation, creativity, selflessness, accountability, transparency and integrity to their work as they collaborate with trade unions to enhance social and economic development.

Particularly, we shout out to all teachers who are the builders of foundations and nations, who are the younger generation.

SHADE-IN believes that each individual, especially, the child and adolescent, is a potential nation. This is why the role of a teacher can never be over emphasised. Dearest teacher, please do all you can to provide care,  knowledge, positive relationship, guidance,  counselling and protection from abuse for those children under your care. And you'll be surprised how much blessed you'll be. Your blessing will go beyond what your salary can afford.

Dearest young worker, entrepreneur, hustler, always remember, life is in stages, people are in sizes. Please take it step by step; be diligent, loyal to your superiors (boss), humble in your attainments, join the right networks, learn, innovate and be determined to always add value to work,  to the nation beginning from where you are. Reject temptations to break the rules of the Book of books. Trust in God and your good name and impact will be felt and  heard one day across boarders as Nigeria becomes a better place to be socially,  economically, etc. , because of you. Don't be the problem. Be the solution.

SHADE-IN believes in you, that industrious and educated youth. So long as you keep learning and applying, you are that youth. Yes, we can.

Happy workers day to all Nigerian workers, Africa and the world at large.

International Day of Conscience: When Moral Outrage Misfires – A Case Study in Ethical Activism

Abstract On this International Day of Conscience, we reflect on the delicate balance between righteous indignation and ethical responsibility. This article examines a 2025 incident in Nigeria where an activist’s public confrontation of a struggling mother and her 11‐year‐old daughter escalated into a humiliating episode.  The case, which involved the exposure of the child’s face in violation of child protection guidelines, ultimately led to a public apology from the activist and compassionate intervention from well-meaning Nigerians including the famous chess player and philanthropist Tunde Onakoya, and the founder of Buchymix, who stepped in and offered to support the child’s education and the family's welfare, including accomodation.  Through this analysis, we explore the complexities of activism that neglects empathy and the need for a conscientious approach in public discourse. Introduction Conscience guides us in differentiating right from wrong, yet its application in pu...

My Sexuality and I: My Unashamed Love 💕

My Story and Sexuality Sexuality can be a tricky subject to navigate, especially when you’re young and still figuring out who you are. But one thing I’ve learned through my own journey is that your sexuality is yours to define, and there’s no shame in it—no matter what it looks like or the world's views. This is my story and I hope it inspires you. Growing up, I had a close friend named Franca. We were very close and everyone knew us.  Then, I was more often attracted to girls at different times and we could be so close. Today, a lot of young people get attracted to persons of different sexual orientation - a girl can get attracted to a girl, a boy to a boy, a girl to a boy and vice versa. There is nothing wrong with this on a platonic basis. Child This has been falsely interpreted as them having a different sexual orientation from whom their Maker made them, which informs their gender identity - gay, lesbian and every other identity. This has led to other forms of sexual orientati...
