Open Letter to Our Esteemed Volunteers since 2010

First set of SHADE-IN Volunteers - 2010 Dear Esteemed SHADE-IN Volunteer, Words fail us to express how much you mean to us. You have done what Napoleon could not do. We want to let you know that your name is written with indelible impression on the sand of time. You are much esteemed for your love, care, passion, compassion, empathy, humility, perseverance, patience, sacrifice to humanity and your faith in SHADE-IN. Yes, you heard about the vision, believed in it and ran with it absolutely selflessly not because you were promised or given any incentives. You are indispensable. Our prayer for you is that you reap in hundred folds, the reward of your labour. Before you ask you will receive. When you call for one, millions will answer your call. You will be above only. We have got good plans for you but God has the best plans for you. Your season of rewards is here. 2021 will produce amazing surprises for you. It shall be your best year until now. God bless you, real good. Do

16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence; Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent and Collect

Globally, 243 million women and girls were abused by an intimate partner in the past year. Meanwhile, less than 40 per cent of women who experience violence report it or seek help. As countries implemented lockdown measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, violence against women, especially domestic violence, intensified – in some countries, calls to helplines have increased five-fold. In others, formal reports of domestic violence have decreased as survivors find it harder to seek help and access support through the regular channels. School closures and economic strains left women and girls poorer, out of school and out of jobs, and more vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, forced marriage, and harassment. In April 2020, as the pandemic spread across the world, the UN Secretary-General called for “peace at home”, and 146 Member States responded with their strong statement of commitment. In recent months 135 countries have strengthened actions and resources to address violence agai

RCCG to immortalise Uwaila: Reflections from Uwaila's Death and Funeral

The funeral service and internment of Late Vera Uwaila Omozuwa has held on Friday, 13th November, 2020.  The service which held at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Edo Province 10 headquarters, had points of reflection. During the service, the Pastor Incharge of Region 13, Pastor Dele Balogun, announced that the RCCG is making plans to immortalise Uwaila. It is no more news that Uwaila was a girl with enviable virtues while she was alive. Her virtues have earned her honour even in her death despite the fact that she was raped and murdered, which is enough dishonour and injustice meted by the perpetrators.  As the Redeemed Christian Church plans to immortalise Uwaila, we hope that the government, Security agencies and all concerned will ensure that justice is served and not swept under the carpet, as there are concerns of negligence, as expressed by a family member. Recall that the 22 year old Microbiology 100 level student of University of Benin (UNIBEN) was raped and murde

My Voice, Our Equal Future: International Day of the Girl

In a world where many cultures and society relegate the female sex to the background, the international day of the girl for this year 2020, which is marked on 11th October yearly, focuses on girls amplifying their voices to take hold of the future with the theme: "My voice, our equal future." While there is still the debate of women and girls' social inclusion to attain gender equality, girls must not allow themselves to be relegated to the background but must find their voices; they must speak up and speak out. SHADE-IN has been committed to ensuring that both boys and girls function in their place and have given them the chance to express themselves as equal partners through her teen and youth-focused programmes. We have raised boys to speak up and speak out even on issues relating to girls as well as girls to also speak out. We will continue to provide a platform for both sexes and especially the girls, who are the most marginalised to speak up and speak out to attai

Nigeria Can Be Great Again: Great Youths, Great People, Great Nation!

We believe in Nigeria! We believe in the Nigerian Youth! We pledge our commitment to invest our resources into Youth Education, Leadership Development, Value Reorientation and Neighborhood Transformation. That's what we stand for. Nigeria can be great again. There is still hope for Nigeria. There is hope for the Nigerian. There is hope for the Nigerian Youth. Amidst the dissatisfaction in the outcome of Nigeria at 60, it calls for gratitude that Nigeria is not utterly destroyed. Conquer anger with love; love yourself, love others, love Nigeria, love God. We call on our leaders to serve the citenzenry with the heart of true leadership, solving the obvious problems in Nigeria strategically; focusing on EDUCATION, as a bedrock for development, because we believe that EDUCATION cuts across all sectors and can facilitate the change we all seek for tremendously.  We also passionately call on Nigerian Youths, to keep investing in their personal development, in their education and morality

Mental Grooming: My Perspective on the Teens Hub for IYD 2020 by OBOMO EKI-ALLEN

Teens Voices: Testimonial from Teens Hub  by OBOMO EKI-ALLEN

WHAT I LEARNT IN SHADE-IN TEENS HUB THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: SEXUAL HARRASEMENT AND SEXUAL ASSAULT by Omiebi Eki-Allen

Teens Voices: Testimonial from Teens Hub  by Omiebi  Eki-Allen I learnt that sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature in the workplace or learning environment. Sexual harassment is anything or idea that suggests sexual activity or sexual relationship which is not pleasing or accepted by the other party.  I also got to understand that sexual harassment and sexual assault are different terms but one can lead to the other. Sexual harassment is sexual gestures while Sexual assault is a forceful sexual act, for example rape. Sexual harassment generally violates civil laws, meaning that you have a right to work or learn without being harassed, but most times, it is not a criminal act, while sexual assault usually refers to acts that are criminal. Some examples of sexual harassment could involve: πŸ’” Requests for sexual favors. πŸ’”Verbal harassment of a sexual nature, including jokes referring to

Violence Against Persons: Case Study, Uwaila and Tina - The Way Forward

There is so much to learn from the occurrences of violence against persons in our beloved country, Nigeria, especially during this lockdown and pandemic. We are glad that a lot of voices are raised regarding Tina Ezekwe's murder and the rape and murder of Uwaila Vera Omozuwa. It is so sad and disheartening. The Federal Government and designated authorities really need to put a lot of things in place in Nigeria. We are suffering from the effects of a failed system: failed educational system, failed healthcare system, failed security system, failed sincerity system, failed intelligence system, failed 'humanity' system, etc. The Executive, Judicial and Legislative arms of government need to synergize to ensure a security and justice system that works. So here, we have a beautiful, innocent, diligent girl with a promising future lying lifeless. So sad!   While some may think of indulging themselves, she chose the safest place, the Church to read, I mea

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY: Safe Child, Happy Child! πŸŒ·πŸŒΉπŸ’☂️πŸŽˆπŸŽπŸŽ€

We must be careful about the arrows we are shooting, because they will either sustain legacies or destroy them. We need to give our children the necessary attention to be safe, productive, and to build a great support system for us and future generations to come. In every child is a nation and neglecting a child is neglecting a nation. It is our collective responsibility to give our children the life they deserve. We celebrate our children today. To every Nigerian child, we love you. πŸ₯° #SHADE_IN
