SPECIAL INVITATION BY SHADE-IN

We bring you greetings, dear Educator. We must confess that you are doing a very great work educating the younger generation. We all know that the children under our care belong to a different generation from ours, that is technology-driven. Hence, we need to be technology savvy to fulfil our ministry to them because we believe that teaching is not just one of the most honourable professions, but it is a ministry as well. You may also know that there are global guidelines for achieving sustainable development which includes education guidelines. If anybody should know about this, it should be the educator/teacher. You would recall that SHADE-IN is committed to improving teachers' quality for maximum impact, hence we had a conference for teachers in March last year, 2019 to achieve this aim. Hence, Saving Hand Development Initiative (with the light blue logo on the flyer) is partnering with Global Schools Program, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solu...

UN 2019 Universal Children’s Day Celebration: SHADE-IN's Perspectives

Universal Children’s Day means investing in our future (children), this is why the United Nations (UN) has designated every November 20th as Universal children’s day. The celebration helps to promote togetherness around the world, awareness of the problems children face in every corner of the globe and improve the welfare for all children. The establishment of the Universal Children’s Day could be traced to 1954 where the UN General Assembly adopted the ‘Declaration of the Rights of the Child’. In 1989 the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ was also adopted by the UN General Assembly. The Children’s Day marks the celebration of both events. The celebration of this  year, 2019  is special because it marks the 30 th anniversary of the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ (an international agreement on childhood). It becomes the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history and has helped transform children’s lives around the world. The convention men...

UN 2019 International Youth Day: SHADE-IN Participates in National Youth Dialogue on the SDGs, Speaks on Goal 4

August 12 was first designated International Youth Day by the UN General Assembly in 1999, and serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in change, and an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges and problems facing the worlds youth. Today, we celebrate the young people, youth-led organisations, Governments and others who are working to transform education and uplift young people everywhere.  -UN Secretary-General António Guterres There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world. This is the largest youth population ever. However, more than half of all children and adolescents aged 6-14 lack basic reading and Maths skills, despite the fact that the majority of them are attending school. This global learning crisis threatens to severely hamper progress towards the SDGs. This year's theme: Transforming education highlights efforts to make education more inclusive and accessib...

SHADE-IN Marks 2019 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Emerges M&E Officer of AACSGBV, Edo State

Every year, 30th July, 2019 is recognised as World Day Against Trafficking In Persons. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) defines human trafficking as the act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person through the use of force, deception or other means for the purpose of exploiting them. The theme of this year's celebration is "A Call To Act Now". Despite the fact that almost every country has trafficking laws, trafficking still remains a global menance. Hence, the thrust of this year's celebration is UNODC call to the Governments of Nations to " Act Now" by taking urgent, expedient and practical action with the best interests of the victims of trafficking as the primary consideration. The strong urgent message of UNODC is that whether law or services, national or community based, sustained or targeted, all responses should be: human rights based, age and gender responsive and victim centered to assi...

World Water Day: Leaving No One Behind, Improving WASH Conditions in Our Public Schools

On the 22nd of March every year, the United Nations (UN) celebrates World Water Day. This year, 2019, the theme is: "Leaving No One Behind". This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal 6: "Water For All by 2030". Water is a necessity of life, so much so that the body contains two-thirds water in various forms. Water is a major constituent of cells, tissues, organs and other body parts. Most of the food we eat is composed of water in varying degree, even the air we breath has some amount of moisture (water) in it. It is therefore safe to say that water is as essential as air, because water is life. Water is needed in our day to day activities, from drinking to cooking, washing, cleaning, bathing, etc. It is a stated fact that humans can survive up to seven days without food, but they cannot survive seven days without water. This article focuses on water, sanitation and hygiene as it relates to public schools. Saving Hand Development I...
