Globally, 243 million women and girls were abused by an intimate partner in the past year. Meanwhile, less than 40 per cent of women who experience violence report it or seek help. As countries implemented lockdown measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, violence against women, especially domestic violence, intensified – in some countries, calls to helplines have increased five-fold. In others, formal reports of domestic violence have decreased as survivors find it harder to seek help and access support through the regular channels. School closures and economic strains left women and girls poorer, out of school and out of jobs, and more vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, forced marriage, and harassment. The funeral service and internment of Late Vera Uwaila Omozuwa has held on Friday, 13th November, 2020.  The service which held at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Edo Province 10 headquarters, had points of reflection. During the service, the Pastor Incharge of Region 13, Pastor Dele Balogun, announced that the RCCG is making plans to immortalise Uwaila. It is no more news that Uwaila was a girl with enviable virtues while she was alive. Her virtues have earned her honour even in her death despite the fact that she was raped and murdered, which is enough dishonour and injustice meted by the perpetrators.  As the Redeemed Christian Church plans to immortalise Uwaila, we hope that the government, Security agencies and all concerned will ensure that justice is served and not swept under the carpet, as there are concerns of negligence, as expressed by a family member. In a world where many cultures and society relegate the female sex to the background, the international day of the girl for this year 2020, which is marked on 11th October yearly, focuses on girls amplifying their voices to take hold of the future with the theme: "My voice, our equal future." While there is still the debate of women and girls' social inclusion to attain gender equality, girls must not allow themselves to be relegated to the background but must find their voices; they must speak up and speak out. We bring to your notice the programmes lined up by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO ) to mark this year's world teachers' day. The theme for 2020 World Teachers' Day is: “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind. This year, in view of the current situation, the celebrations will take place online.
