World Teachers' Day, 2021: Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery - Our Interventions.

On this special day, we join the world to celebrate our esteemed teachers. Although it appears like you are not getting commensurate value and recognition for what you do, we must say your efforts are well appreciated. A day is not enough to celebrate you - thanks to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for figuring this out.

As part of our strategies, Saving Hand Development Initiative (SHADE-IN) has a vision to improve the lives of teachers and impact positively in them to make their work more impactful and profitable. This is why SHADE-IN has embarked on several education-based projects including the "Changed Teachers Conference (CTC)."

SHADE-IN believes in tailoring interventions based on needs and that is why we use the research approach in our programme design.

Over the years, SHADE-IN has carried out some research in schools within Edo State and Rivers State and identified certain gaps that informed our programming. We have garnered resources to achieve the feats we have reached so far.

As part of our research and drive to raise changed, improved teachers, teaching experience and educational system especially in Nigeria, the last CTC was tagged, "Change Drivers for Educational Transformation." It was a Conference to validate our findings on the field with different sets of teachers and schools, as well as build teachers' capacity. The revelations we got were mind-blowing. Our findings were validated.

Going through the theme for this year's International Teachers' Day event: “Teachers at the heart of education recovery, ” and the fact sheet presented by UNESCO, I could see some of our findings showing up in the factsheet which is another validation of our research results.

If teachers are at the heart of education recovery, then teachers wellbeing and development should be the priority of every institution employing their services or responsible for catering for them. Teachers should be treated with the highest sense of dignity, whether as public or private workers. We have received negative reports as to teachers being treated with disdain. This should never be the case. The old time saying is very applicable to Teachers: "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Deuteronomy 25:4 NIV

Happy World Teachers' Day to all Teachers, both current and retired. Your reward is here.

In the coming years, SHADE-IN has further rich interventions for you.

Remember, if you need copies of our reports and findings to give you insight on areas you can support teachers and education in Africa, especially in Nigeria, our works may be great resources for you. Educators' Role Towards Learning For Lasting Peace - Advocate for Reviewed Education Budget Allocation.

This year's international day of education focuses on Learning for Lasting Peace with hashtag #LeadingSDG4, by emphasising the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech. According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), "Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility." If it is a public responsibility, then it's definitely the Government's responsibility as well. UNESCO also cited that "without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. Furthermore, UNESCO stated that, "Today, 250 million children and youth are out of school, and 763 million adults are illiterate. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It's time to transform education." For ove...
