SHADE-IN celebrates the birthdays of children in Aba-Ebira community

It has been a norm for Saving Hand Development Initiative (SHADE-IN) to celebrate community children’s birthday as one of her neighbourhood transformation strategies, enhancing their social culture.

In November 2014, SHADE-IN celebrated the birthdays of two of the indigenes of Aba-Ebira community, namely Waheed and Ayo.

Another celebration took place on the 28th of February, 2015 where the birthdays of two indigenes of Aba-Ebira community namely Idowu and Rasheed were celebrated. The occasion witnessed a positive response from the community as almost the entire community came out to celebrate their children. Prayers were made for the celebrants by their parents.

The 29th of November, 2017 was a very memorable day for Baby Bright Stephen and his family as a total number of 21 persons were present to grace his first birthday celebration, amongst who are members of the community, neighbours and Saving Hand Development Initiative (SHADE-IN) community volunteers. The celebration took place at the open space in Aba-Ebira community. The whole event lasted for about two hours. The celebration featured songs, and birthday wishes for the celebrant, cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrant, refreshments and of course dance. The mother of the celebrant, Mrs. Happy Stephen expressed her joy as she gave the vote of thanks to the SHADE-IN team for the celebration.

Birthday celebrations is one of the methods SHADE-IN employs to build relationship with and among community members. Such celebrations also facilitate communal spirit, love and harmony among community members, which used to be a major challenge when we entered the community.

Educators' Role Towards Learning For Lasting Peace - Advocate for Reviewed Education Budget Allocation.

This year's international day of education focuses on Learning for Lasting Peace with hashtag #LeadingSDG4, by emphasising the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech. According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), "Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility." If it is a public responsibility, then it's definitely the Government's responsibility as well. UNESCO also cited that "without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. Furthermore, UNESCO stated that, "Today, 250 million children and youth are out of school, and 763 million adults are illiterate. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It's time to transform education." For ove...
